The Color of Longing
Since the trend color is only presented by the well-known international color institute at the beginning of the year and the brands' new collections are presented at the same time at trade fairs and online, the color trend usually only makes its way into our four walls a year later. This means that since this year we have seen more and more blue furniture and accessories in magazines, online magazines and from well-known furniture brands - which I personally am very pleased about.
Blue has always been one of my favorite colors, especially for walls. From a rich blue to a smoky blue to a light blue - everything has been painted on the walls. But signature pieces like a sofa or decorative accessories in this color also look very elegant. Here I show you my favorite furniture and accessories in the trendy color blue.
Color as a mood maker – the Blue Hour
Alongside yellow and red, blue is the third primary color and cannot be mixed from another color. The complementary color of blue is yellow. Researchers have found that blue promotes creativity and concentration - so the color is very suitable for the work area / home office. Doctors and color therapists value the healing effect of blue, it relieves nervousness, makes it easier to reduce stress and promotes sleep - so the color is also perfect for the sleeping area.
Go blue and bring the sea home
We find a room decorated in blue with lots of white to be cool and refreshing. People in southern countries appreciate this too and, for example, in hot Greece they often decorate their homes in the Mediterranean color combination of blue and white. When you think of Santorini, you inevitably think of this Mediterranean combination. When you look to the north, you would not expect this combination, and rightly so - it would simply be too cool here and, due to the fewer hours of sunshine, too gloomy. In the north, blue is more likely to be combined with warm colors such as yellow and red tones and natural materials such as rattan or wood, and used more discreetly than in southern regions.
New year, new paint: blue on the walls
Blue is not the same as blue: Since the color comes in so many different shades, the hue can have a very different effect.
The choice of color tone (whether more gray or green is added to the blue) should also depend on the amount of daylight and the orientation of the room.
By the way, blue is the perfect combination with pink, the color of January. It takes the sweetness out of the feminine color and, conversely, pink takes the coolness out of blue. When painting, I find combining different shades of blue together particularly exciting and elegant. Blue goes well with all of its members, be it dove blue, sapphire blue, petrol blue, light blue, aquamarine...
PAINTING TIPS FROM THE ADLER COLOR PROFESSIONAL
"Dark colours tend to 'write', meaning that when rubbed, whitish streaks appear like on a blackboard. With very matt colours, this can never be completely prevented, but with high-quality wall paints such as the matt Aviva Ultra-Color, these spots can simply be wiped off with a clean, damp cloth. With satin-gloss colours such as Aviva Strong-Color this effect does not occur at all.
The substrate is particularly important when using dark colors. Poorly applied plaster, filler fills and cracks are more noticeable due to the rich color than on a white wall. Due to the strong contrast with the adjacent lighter surfaces, it is also particularly important to cleanly tape off the edges. The use of high-quality adhesive tape is recommended here (usually available under the names "washitape" or "gold tape"). In addition, especially with rougher plaster, the colored edge should definitely be pre-painted with the light wall paint, as this completely prevents the darker color from running through during the subsequent coat. When applying the paint, it is then only important to always work with a lot of material "wet on wet". This prevents seams and the formation of roller tracks."
If you're worried you'll get tired of seeing something, we can reassure you: a wall color is never a decision for life. A fresh coat of paint gives a room a new look at a low cost and can be changed again very quickly if necessary.
